Commend Students in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program

National University Academy (NUA) Executive Director, Kimberleigh Kopp, and Program Lead, Sumaiyah Vedder, of National University Academy’s 1001 S.T.E.A.M. Program announced today that student Mohammad A. Shafi has been named a Commended Student in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by the NUA Executive Director and 1001 S.T.E.A.M. Program Lead to this scholastically talented senior this Spring.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2017 competition by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
NUA Executive Director, Kimberleigh Kopp, added, “We couldn’t be more proud of Mohammad Shafi’s accomplishment! He is a gifted student, a great person, a wonderful leader/ team captain of our NuBotX Robotics Team, and his future holds the potential for many amazing things yet to come. I am truly honored to present this prestigious award to Shafi on behalf of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.”
NUA 1001 S.T.E.A.M. Program Lead, Sumaiyah Vedder, commented, “It is great to see one of our students recognized by such a prestigious scholastic organization! Mohammad Shafi is a self-starter and a hard worker. He diligently worked to help start up the NuBotX Robotics Team—finding mentors and student participants—and he also assiduously kept up his efforts to improve his scholastic ability, developing his talents to the point where he is today. We are proud of his achievements, and commend him for his exemplary, steadfast efforts! He is a 1001 S.T.E.A.M. Role Model.”
