Yazmien Roberts is a curious science student in the NUA Independent Study program, Murrieta campus. For her science class, she prepared an ‘edible animal cell,’ which is a model of the cell wall, cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm, Golgi bodies, vacuoles, and more, made out of
The materials she used for her project were rice cake, Jell-O, sprinkles, Fruit by the Foot, licorice, and more. She also labeled each part with the material she used.
This activity was designed by her teacher, Mrs. Swati Desai, to facilitate learning about different parts of an animal cell and the function of each organelle. Roberts entered her project in the Riverside County Science Fair and was awarded the Bronze Medal. She will move on to compete in the California State Regional Science Fair.
